Rich lister’s $24m buy a price outlier
Fears that top-end property sales would suffer because of Covid-19 appear to have been misplaced, with 2020’smost expensive house sale coming in at $24 million.
However, that sale, in which a waterfrontWestmere, Auckland, mansion was bought by toymaking rich-lister Anna Mowbray and former All Black AliWilliams, was an outlier.
It doesn’t feature on CoreLogic’s top sales list of the year because the sale was for two titles and did not fit its criteria for single-title house sales.
Additionally, the $24m price was nearly double that of the country’s most expensive single-title sale. That sale was of a plush four-storey house, on a 1480 square-metre section, at 7 Rarere Rd in Hauraki.
It was sold to a North Shore family for $12.25m back in February, although settlement was in October.
All the properties featured in CoreLogic’s top 10 sales list sold for at least $8m.
Auckland properties dominated the list and Remuera was the suburb that featuredmost often – although CoreLogic’s data shows that, overall, Herne Bay was the highest priced suburb in New Zealand with a median property value of $2.68m.
Only one sale from elsewhere in the country made CoreLogic’s top 10 list. That sale was for a Queenstown house at 245 Peninsula Rd, which sold for $8.3m in July.
The most expensive residential property sales in the country’s two other biggest cities, Wellington and Christchurch, came in at $5.75m (for 7 Clive Rd, Khandallah) and $4.6m (for 68 Garden Rd, Merivale) respectively.
