Capital Photograph­er of the Year: The Exhibition Pātaka Art + Museum, Porirua; Monday to Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 11am-4.30pm; free entry

The exhibition is headed up the coast for six photograph-filled weeks. A fascinatin­g window into Wellington, the exhibition will showcase the best images from the 2022 competitio­n, handpicked by some of the country’s top artistic talents.

Te Wāhanga Waihanga-Hoahoa celebrates the mahi of architectu­re and design innovation students in the annual end-of-year exhibition. The students are constantly exploring their auahatanga (creativity) to develop and produce works engaging with concepts of architectu­re and design innovation. Ceramicus 2022 Academy Galleries, Queens Wharf; 10am-5pm; free entry

Ceramicus is a showcase of new pottery works by members hailing from Wellington up to the Horowhenua/Kāpiti Coast and the Wairarapa. Wellington­ians and visitors to the capital have the opportunit­y to view and purchase the region’s finest pieces of ceramic art and learn more about its rich artisan scene.

Whetūrangi­tia/ Made As Stars The Dowse, Lower Hutt; free entry

Through the work of contempora­ry Indigenous artists from around the world, Whetūrangi­tia/Made As

Stars explores the real-time lived relationsh­ips first cultures have with their gods. Featuring work by leading artists from Aotearoa, Nepal, Canada, Hawai’i, Sāmoa, Tonga and Laos.

Megan Dunn: The Mermaid Chronicles Adam Art Gallery; free entry

Exploring writer Dunn’s longstandi­ng fascinatio­n for mermaids and the world of profession­al mermaiding, vintage artefacts are brought together with painting, sculpture, underwater photograph­s and videos.
