Big turnout for last ewe fair

A large crowd attended the last of the North Canterbury ewe fairs at Sheffield as prices for the two-tooth ewes sold on a par with recent sales.

Prices peaked at $222 for a pen of border romneys at the ewe fair held last Friday.

The best two-tooth ewes made $200 to $215 with the odd sale to $222, medium $180 to $195 and lighter $150 to $175.

Adult ewes had a steady sale, ranging mainly between $160 to $175, with a pen of second and third shear border romneys making $203.

The best ewes made $175 to $185, medium $160 to $170 and lighter $130 to $145.
