University hall on quake-prone list

-

Lincoln University’s historic Ivey Memorial Hall has been added to a list of earthquakeprone buildings.

The Selwyn District Council last week updated its quake-prone buildings list after independent engineering reports were reviewed by the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (Cera).

Burnham Military Camp’s boilerhouse, manager’s house and historical centre are no longer considered quakeprone.

Lincoln University’s Hudson Hall and Johnston Memorial Laboratory had also been removed from the list and were ‘‘open and operating as normal’’, a university spokeswoman said.

The Ivey Memorial Hall, which would require an engineering report, had been closed since the September 2010 quake, she said.

Three other Selwyn buildings have been found to be quake-prone – the Glentunnel Magazine building complex, St John’s Anglican Church in Hororata and St Paul’s Anglican Church in Tai Tapu.

The future of three Southbridge buildings, including the rifle club and the Geoff Hampton Engineering building, is uncertain. Councilowned buildings that could be quake-prone are the Doyleston Library, Sheffield Memorial Pool changing rooms, Lakeside Community Hall, Greenpark Hall, Dunsandel Hall, Glentunnel Post Office and Tai Tapu Library.
