- Jo Cherry

Harewood, leader of the premier men’s hockey championship, produced a commanding 4-0 win over CarltonRedcliffs at Nunweek Park on Saturday.

Harewood began with some great passing, placing pressure on the Redcliffs defence.

A sharp attack led to the first goal from Willie Hayde in the 10th minute and Harewood went ahead from a penalty corner by Mitch Hayde in the 23rd minute.

After the break Redcliffs came out with more energy but were unable to counter Harewood’s attacks. Hare- wood kept up the pressure and scored two more goals.

Harewood coach Robin Wilson was pleased with his team’s effort.

Wilson said that tight passing meant his team made the most of their opportunities.

In other men’s games, an even contest between University and Selwyn was locked at 1-1 at halftime thanks to a stroke to Reuben Koorey for University and a drag flick to Hayden Shaw for Selwyn. Shaw scored with two more drag flicks in the second half to allow Selwyn a 3-1 win.

High School Old BoysBurnside scored early, followed by a fine team goal to Avon. Both teams had plenty of chances but most of Avon’s were wide of the goal. Old Boys kept calm and eventually won 4-1.

While Tenille Burnside looked dangerous attacking up the wing for Harewood, Avon also had their chances but couldn’t convert with Harewood winning 4-0.
