- Francesca Lee

A magnitude-3.5 earthquake shook Christchurch at 8.39am yesterday, but few residents appeared to notice.

The tremor was 30 kilometres west of Christchurch at a depth of 10km.

GeoNet described the intensity as moderate.

There were reports of shaking felt as far as Temuka, and people in central Christchurch and Rolleston reported light to moderate shaking.

Social media site Twitter typically lights up with quake-related tweets when a quake strikes, but there were few tweets after the Christmas Day shake.

A 3.1 quake struck 20km southeast of Christchurch at a depth of 5km at 10.06pm on Christmas Eve.

The intensity described as light.

It was felt as far away as Wellington, and light shaking was felt in Redcliffs, Sumner, Mt Pleasant and parts of Banks Peninsula.
