Palmer spot on

-

Sir Geoffrey Palmer’s article (Dec 21) is spot on. The Government’s arrogance is breathtaking. Why are we letting it get away with it?

It has decreed that Environment Canterbury shall be ruled by unelected officials into 2016. Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Gerry Brownlee has a dictatorial approach. He appears to have no interest in holding EQC and insurance companies to account for poor progress.

But National’s arrogance extends beyond Canterbury. Not only has Minister of Education Hekia Parata shown contempt for democracy in the schools’ closure saga, but she andher associates continue to defend Novopay.

We are not allowed to know what is up for negotiation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade talks. Judith Collins rejects Justice Ian Binnie’s report, presumably because she finds its conclusions unpalatable. The list goes on.

The next general election can’t come soon enough for me.
