More roadworks to challenge motorists
Several new road repair projects will begin in central Christchurch this week, posing further challenges for motorists.
Traffic will not be able to travel westbound through the intersection of Durham and Peterborough streets from today as work begins to decommission old manholes.
The Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (Scirt) said delays should be expected.
Night works in Moorhouse Ave will affect motorists travelling towards Hagley Park from Pilgram Place to Antigua St, restricting the road to just one lane while pipelining is completed during the next two weeks.
The intersection of Colombo and Armagh streets remains closed to all traffic except drivers travelling east on Armagh St and turning north into Colombo St.
Northbound drivers in Colombo St will be detoured at Gloucester St and around the river to Armagh St. Southbound drivers will be detoured along Cambridge Tce, Manchester and Gloucester streets.
Scirt said traffic management would change around that part of Armagh St until mid-November.
Hereford St is also one-way for eastbound traffic between Colombo St and Oxford Tce for the next four weeks while wastewater pipes are replaced. Other streets affected by roadworks in the central city this week include Antigua St (northbound only between St Asaph St and Moorhouse Ave), Allen St (westbound only) and St Asaph St (lane reductions between Madras and Manchester streets).
Work also continues on the hospital corner between 7pm and 6am during the next few days, while lane closures remain in Kilmore St between Madras and Colombo streets for road reconstruction and storm water repairs until December.
Outside the four avenues, the Keyes and Bowhill roads intersection in north New Brighton will be closed for three weeks from tomorrow while the roundabout is reconstructed. Drivers could use Marine Pde.
