Papanui tramp champs

The Canterbury Secondary Schools Gymnastics Championsh­ips took place at the Olympia gymnasium in Christchur­ch on Tuesday.

With New Zealand representa­tives competing, there was stiff competitio­n in the trampoline competitio­n as well as a high standard in both the rhythmic and artistic gymnastics events.

Papanui High School walked away with the team trampoline title.

Rangi Ruru Girls’ School was second by just over three points and Marian College third.

St Thomas of Canterbury College student Reegan Laidlaw took home the elite boys’ title after beating Cashmere High School student Scott Phillips.

The Elite girls’ competitio­n was extremely competitiv­e with the top three girls separated by less than two points. St Andrew’s College student Elizabeth Stevenson took home the gold after a consistent performanc­e across both routines.

Kaiapoi High School’s Bronwyn Dibb held off Villa Maria College’s Madaline Davidson by half a point to get the silver medal.

In the rhythmic gymnastics Cashmere’s Maggie Takami took home the internatio­nal category after a strong hoop routine.

Christchur­ch Girls’ High School student Isabella Ralston won the Club A division and Villa Maria’s Anna Hooker snared the Club B event title.
