Former Black Cap Chris Harris rolled back the years with the highest score of the day in Christchurch Metro premier cricket.

The 45-year-old – who made his Canterbury debut in 1989, before many of his current club contemporaries were born – notched an unbeaten 70 in Sydenham’s total of 220-7 declared against Old Boys Collegians at Sydenham Park on Saturday.

Harris came in at number five and quickly consolidated the innings after Sydenham had lost two batsmen, opener Dylan Goldstone and Finn Loader, with the score at 45.

The experienced lefthander took 135 balls to reach 70, striking five fours.

Harris shared in an unbeaten 93-run eighth wicket stand with Matt Brown, who belted 52 runs off 39 balls and hammered four boundaries and two sixes.

Sydenham were in a strong position at stumps with Old Boys Collegians reeling at 113 for five.

Daniel Stanley had been the best of the OBCC bowlers with three wickets for 56 and he also top-scored with the bat.

The opener put on 35 runs off 46 balls and Ben Ward chipped in with 33, including four boundaries.

St Albans got a first innings edge in a low scoring encounter at Bur- wood Park. Opener Tim Matehe-Hampton carried his bat through the East Christchurch Shirley innings, scoring 54 of their 122 runs with Matt Holstein the best of the Saints bowlers with four wickets for 22. The left armer mopped up the Easts tail, taking the last four wickets.

Scottish import Dylan Budge led with 35 runs in St Albans’ tally of 133. McNicol was Easts’ most effective bowler with four wickets for 41.

Marist Harewood produced their best batting performance of the season against Riccarton at Redwood Park thanks to a 130-run fourth wicket partnership by Adam Coleman (61) and Hamish Milner-Win (60).

Their partnership lasted almost 40 overs and played a big part in Marist Harewood being able to declare at 228 for six.

Riccarton playercoach Ben Rapson topped his team’s bowling charts with three wickets for 28.

Rapson’s men were 150 for five at stumps with Tim Yeadon unbeaten on 37. Coleman, the Marist Harewood skipper, capped a good all-round day with three wickets for 27.

Lancaster Park Woolston bowlers Brent Findlay and Nathan Wingham each got three wicket bags as Burnside West University were bowled out for 164 at Burnside Park.

Medium pacer Findlay had three for 28, Wingham three for 34 and former Canterbury pace man Ben McCord took two for 34.

Champions LPW were 142-7 at stumps after a handy 48 from opener Michael Davidson and 30 from McCord, who struck six fours.
