Truck hits cars

An asphalt truck crashed into two parked cars after its brakes failed on a steep Christchurch street. After a ‘‘mechanical failure’’, the Lay Asphalt truck careered down Michael Ave, on Mt Pleasant, around 11.30am yesterday. Narrowly avoiding nearby houses, the driver turned the truck uphill onto Cannon Hill Cres and crashed into two parked cars. ‘‘The truck got away, it was an accident,’’ Lay Asphalt owner Paul Robson said. ‘‘No one was hurt, there were no injuries and the driver was sweet as.’’
