Anti-drone device

For those concerned about snooping drones, there is the perfect device called a Shanghai, used by boys around 1930 and 1940 for, among other uses, to shoot down birds. It was made from a small forked branch to which was attached rubber from the inner tube of bicycle tires. When pulled back, it would fire a stone very accurately for quite a distance. It would certainly take a low-flying drone down and if you shot five down you could be called an Ace. Forbes Taylor Woolston

Akaroa route ruined

The coaches and buses used by tour companies who ferry tourists from cruise ships berthed at Akaroa to Christchurch should not be legally able to transport passengers if they are too large to negotiate a bend or corner. Surely three smaller vehicles carrying 20 passengers each would result in a memorable, tranquil viewing of our beautiful peninsula and broken city. Car drivers and motorcyclists have ceased to travers this wonderful scenic route because of the large tourist coaches which incessantly, illegally and dangerously cross the central lines.
