Car fire extinguished

A car fire near Canterbury’s Lake Ellesmere has been extinguished. Lincoln volunteer fire crews responded to an emergency call south of Christchurch about 11.07am yesterday. A Fire Service spokesman said the car fire, on the Christchurch-Akaroa Highway near Motukarara, was ‘‘well involved’’ when firefighters arrived. The Subaru’s occupants were unharmed. A police spokesman said there was also a crash involving a car and a motorbike in the same area a short time later. The motorcyclist suffered minor injuries.
