Peters appeals to migrant shopkeepers with police goal
In a speech to the Indian Association of New Zealand and Crime Prevention Group, NZ First leader Winston Peters has promised more police protection for dairy owners – 1800 more officers on the beat, carrying out more patrols. ‘‘Let’s not beat around the bush here,’’ he told both groups. ‘‘Dairies are being robbed, owners and workers attacked and terrified.’’ It was the result of the Government slashing resources and hiking the price of cigarettes, Peters said, that had made shop owners a bigger target.
