The United Arab Emirates is to tow icebergs across the Indian Ocean to help solve its water shortage. Perhaps they could offer offshore skiing holidays and import a few polar bears and penguins as well. That would help solve the problem of shrinking wildlife habitat and earn a few much-needed dollars. Vic Smith Halswell

New Zealand has for decades had an open-door policy on immigratio­n. Many of these immigrants were aware that you only needed to stay here for a few years and get automatic entry into Australia. Redcliffs School location

The Ministry of Education’s decision to not allow Redcliffs School to return to its original site due to psychologi­cal reasons and risk of rockfall defies belief when they choose a site that has been identified as being within Christchur­ch’s inundation zone and susceptibl­e to coastal erosion over the next 50 years.
