Gareth Morgan wants to give all youth $200 a week

-

Gareth Morgan’s Opportunities Party (Top) wants to give all 18 to 23-year-olds $200 a week with no strings attached. This would replace the student allowance and the living costs they can borrow through their student loans. Morgan noted that Kiwis already pay a basic income to older people unconditionally – so why not give younger ones some help with the difficult transition into adulthood? ‘‘We are saying that people in an affluent society are owed the ability to live their life with dignity.’’
