Alleged assault by cop

Police say they are investigating an incident where an off-duty officer allegedly assaulted a woman, but refuse to say if he has been stood down. The Otago Daily Times reported a 25-year-old woman claimed the man assaulted her at a Dunedin fancy-dress party on Saturday night. She said he slammed her face into a car bonnet, showed her his police identification and dragged her down the road. Police said they were ‘‘aware of a complaint against a police officer who was offduty at the time of the alleged incident on Sunday morning’’.
