New priests an inspiration in our time

-

I was pleased to see the article (The Press, Jul 21) that has given some positive affirmation to three young men who have counter-culturally dedicated their lives to serving God.

In a society that gives such acclamation to the sporting heroes of the day, television personalities, and film and pop stars, it was refreshing to learn that these three men are able, in spite of pressure, to actually live their lives as role models to us all. As Father Graeme Blackburn stated: ‘‘People still want to find meaning in their existence, but are now turning to alternative explanations to answer this question.’’

The lyrics of the song come to mind ‘‘what’s it all about Alfie’’. The answer the song gives is ‘‘without true love we just exist, Alfie’’.

The three men have found the answer – ‘‘True love/God’’. And of course through God to all others.

Fathers Alister Costello, Huyng Tran and Graeme Blackburn are an inspiration to those wanting meaning in their lives.

So, congratulations to the The Press for this article celebrating a meaningful event in the life of the Catholic Church in Christchurch.
