Matches ‘on ice’
The Canterbury Red Devils were left stranded in Christchurch on Saturday and Sunday, missing their scheduled double header against the Dunedin Thunder. The two sides will play their delayed matches on August 12 and 13. Red Devils coach Matthew Sandford will be relieved to have another week’s rest after their worst start to a season in several years. The Red Devils remain firmly at the bottom of the table on only 6 points. The team have won only two matches and suffered heavy losses to all NIHL teams so far. The wins were against the Botany Swarm and the Dunedin Thunder. They will be looking for their third win this weekend against the Botany Swarm at home at the Alpine Ice Sports Centre. Meanwhile the pacesetting Southern Stampede secured an easy win over the Botany Swarm 6-1 in Auckland on Saturday.
