Guptill has golf power

-

Martin Guptill has shown his power hitting extends beyond the cricket field to the golf course.

The Black Caps opener has been recorded as having as powerful a golf drive as the top players on the PGA Tour.

Guptill, like many of his Black Caps team-mates, is an avid golfer and dropped into Prodrive Golf in Auckland to test his drive.

His ball speed was clocked at 187.7 miles per hour (302kmh), while his club head speed was 131.9mph as he hit a 330-metre drive.

To put that in perspective, the result would have put him in the top six golfers on the PGA Tour. The fastest recorded ball speed this year was from Brandon Hagy with 190.50mph, but with a club head speed of 129.86mph.

Open Championship winner, Jordan Spieth, has a fastest ball speed this year of 173.41mph and a fastest club head speed of 115.87mph.

Of course, Guptill’s effort was done in controlled conditions where accuracy is not important and he can just let rip, but it’s still impressive to see such raw power.
