Tuke in command

-

New Zealand yachting star Blair Tuke has helped his new Spanish round the world crew to a record performance in their first outing. The Volvo Ocean Race fleet are contesting the annual Cowes Week in Britain as part of their sea trials for the global race that starts in October. Tuke, who has won Olympic gold and silver medals, and was part of Team New Zealand’s America’s Cup winning crew, continued his remarkable run as the Mapfre boat blasted around the famous Isle of Wight in record time for a monohull. Mapfre completed the 80km course in three hours, 13 minutes and 11 seconds. That time was more than six minutes ahead of the previous record set in 2013 by super-maxi ICAP Maximus.
