Fine fleece lifts as strong wool eases

- TIM CRONSHAW

Crossbred wools still struggled as fine wool prices lifted at the Christchurch wool sale last week.

Prices were mixed for a top offering as core Asian markets remained subdued, including for crossbred hogget fleece.

Crossbred fleece 31 to 34 microns was down 3-7 per cent from the last sale on September 28,

35 microns and stronger was cheaper by 1-3 per cent and second shear unchanged. Fine fleece 21 to

25 microns was up 2-3 per cent and

14 to 20 microns rose 7-11 per cent. Halfbred types were firm to slightly cheaper and merino wool was well sought after across all micron categories. About 20-30 per cent of the offering was passed in. Sales included: Crossbred Eweburn Farm, Otago, cross hog, 7 bales, 29.7 microns, 76.3 yield, 439 cents greasy, 575 cents clean, McKenzie Farming, Christchurch, rom hog, 16, 32.4, 75.8, 271, 358.
