Reincarnation of inner-city cafe

-

Pre-quake favourite Dose Cafe has returned to the central city reincarnated as espresso bar Everyday Dose.

The cafe had two locations in Christchurch, on Hereford and Tuam St, prior to February 2011.

In the aftermath co-owner Andy Shiau retreated to the industrial safe haven of Upper Riccarton where he poured his energy into the part-cafe part-pizza joint Dose Diner.

Earlier this month he opened Everyday Dose with the help of his sister Julie Shiau. You’ll find it on the ground floor of The West End car park building, 44 Hereford St.

Julie says they’re ‘‘thrilled to finally be open back in town,’’ especially considering they were aiming for a May launch date.

She explains the feeling is mutual. ‘‘We’ve had a lot of people come in and ask if we’re the old Dose and they’ve been excited to find we’re back.

‘‘It’s so cool to know people remember us. We really appreciate them coming in and saying hi.’’

She says when people discover they’re the former Dose revamped often their second question is ‘‘do you guys still do the bagels?’’

The answer is yes - they still make their own bagels, croissants and doughnuts fresh daily. ‘‘It’s what we’ve done for a number of years and it’s what we do best.’’

With a limited cabinet offering the espresso bar is best suited to those in need of a ‘‘quick fix’’.

The Shiau team are opening a second cafe in the West End complex early next month. Westend Stories cafe will be larger of the two with a breakfast and lunch menu.
