Five ways to Fight the fuzz

- Sarah Simpson

Those who battle with the perils of frizzy hair know all too well what summer can mean for them. While the sea, salt and sunshine are a welcome change from a long, wet winter, heat and humidity are notorious for frizzing up our hair.

Help is at hand though! Here are some tried and true solutions: Start at step one by using a cleansing range of shampoo and conditioners specially designed to combat the problem.

These formulas contain a complex designed to rebuild the structure of your hair, helping to smooth and even out the surface of the hair shaft.

Jen Morgan of Morgan and Morgan Urban Retreat recommends a salon keratin treatment as one of the best ways to tame your locks.

“If you really want to get your shine on, consider having a professional smoothing treatment,” says Morgan.

There are a variety of options available in salons, from a good instant de-frizz to those that last six weeks or even maintain smooth hair for up to three months.

Treat your locks to an at-home treatment once a week to ward off the frizzy flyaways. Whether you choose a mask, hot oil or leave-in formulation, these treatments will soften, smooth and settle down unruly hair thanks to the inclusion of natural oils and humidity blockers. Those with fine hair will want to opt for the mask variants that wash out, while stubborn manes will soak up the benefits of a leave-in product, which will also help to weigh the hair down.

Finishing off your style with oil is another great way to ward off fuzz. Adding a couple of drops to the palms of your hands and smoothing through stubborn areas such as around the hairline and through the ends will tame and shape your style while also finishing the look and help make your style last. Another point to consider is which hairbrush you use. The whole idea is to tame and smooth your locks, and a paddle brush is an essential for this task.

Designed to remove static from your hair as well as tame thanks to their ionic bristles, arming yourself with a good brush will become a godsend.
