Trump speech proves how great the US is

-

‘‘Landlords, don’t expect your homes to be cared for if you cannot show care yourselves.’’

Ruth Towns, Ilam

Late last week I had a chance to listen to United States President Donald Trump’s entire ‘‘state of the union’’ speech, actually amounting to much ado about nothing.

The continuous applause after every three sentences uttered was sickening. On Trump’s megalomaniac foreign policy the ‘‘great leader’’ intends to continue targeting small virtually defenceless nations such as Cuba and Venezuela; and as far as Iran is concerned to decertify the existent nuclear deal, obviously at the behest of and to please Israel.

The peaceful, inexorable global economic growth and influence of Russia and China, which the US is powerless to stop, will be countered with expansion of – as demonstrated time and again over the past 50 years – with its destructive yet utterly futile war machine as well as further nuclear proliferation, making our world an increasingly dangerous place.

The infamous torture centre of Quantanomo Bay, the US equivalent to Auswich, will remain open for those defending their country but dubbed ‘‘terrorists’’ when resisting US imperial hegemonic aspirations.

In a world of his own

How can a man be permitted to run a democracy when his own lawyers admit he is ‘‘incapable of telling the truth’’; ‘‘occupies an alternate reality’’; ‘‘creates his own truth’’; admits to ‘‘stretching the truth’’, and loathes the FBI, which he believes has plotted his death and that a ‘‘secret society’’ within that bureau is still plotting against him?

This information was in The Press in an article on January 29 and, unless this is ‘‘fake news’’, there are serious implications for world peace as well as for the future of the US.
