Roseanne, 7.30pm, Thursday, Three

The beloved 1990s American sitcom has been revived, almost 21 years after it last aired. Returning original cast members include Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert.

I Am Not Your Negro, 8.30pm, Thursday Rialto James Baldwin was a man who knew Malcolm X, Medger Evers and Martin Luther King Jr and was deeply saddened and disturbed by the death of each of them. Raoul Peck’s 2017 documentar­y takes archival footage of the writer and raconteur, blends it with his words (narrated by Samuel L Jackson) and comes up with a portrait of white America’s attitudes to its African-American counterpar­ts that feels hauntingly and shockingly relevant today. ‘‘A ferociousl­y well-argued, blazingly intelligen­t, wondrously layered and utterly watchable piece of work,’’ wrote Stuff’s Graeme Tuckett.

You’ve Got Mail, 1.10pm, Friday, TVNZ1

One of the best romantic-comedies, this 1998 tale sees Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan playing business rivals who unwittingl­y fall in love over the internet. ‘‘A valentine to the happenstan­ce miracle of lovers and other strangers, a movie that regards modern romance as something that is, ultimately, old-fashioned to its core,’’ wrote Austin Chronicle’s Steve Davis.

Lion, 8.30pm, Friday, Rialto

Very much a film of two halves, both of them excellent, Australian director Garth Davis’ debut feature deservedly lapped up accolades from around the globe last year. Adapted from his book A Long Way Home, this is the tale of Saroo Brierley (Sunny Pawar, Dev Patel) a young Indianborn, but Tasmanian-raised man desperate to find the original family he lost more than two decades earlier.

Zootopia, 7pm, Sunday, TVNZ2

Disney’s 55th animated adventure is one of its most terrific and thought-provoking. Crisp visuals are allied to charismati­c vocal casting and complex storytelli­ng to bring to life this 2016 tale about a small-town bunny who is desperate to make it as a big city cop. Directors Byron Howard and Rich Moore pack their film to the gunnels with layered humour and little in-jokes for Disney aficionado­s.

Elton John: The Nation’s Favourite Song, 7.25pm, Sunday, TVNZ1

In this new, 90-minute special, Sir Elton John talks to his friend and fan David Walliams about an extraordin­ary career which has spanned 50 years. From Rocket Man to I’m Still Standing, Your Song to Candle In The Wind; the multitalen­ted musician reveals how his classic songs came about in a top 20 countdown, culminatin­g in the UK’s favourite Elton John song.
