Labour seeks financial help with by-election campaign
Labour has stretched out its hand for a bit of financial help in the Northcote by-election. National MP Jonathan Coleman announced his resignation last week, triggering a by-election. In an email to supporters, Labour Party president Nigel Haworth said the by-election would be an ‘‘uphill battle’’. ‘‘If we win this by-election, we’ll be the first governing party to win a seat off an Opposition party in New Zealand history.‘‘ But following the party’s hefty 2017 bill, he’s asking Kiwis to chip in with campaign costs.
