Taking class petition to the top
Last week Minister Genter came to Cobham School to talk to my class of year eight students aged between 11-13.
I am 12, not 10 as the newspaper reported. Minister Genter specially came to visit us because I sent her a petition signed by all my class seeking equal pay for equal work.
The issue of gender equality is something we have talked and learnt about in class.
Minister Genter was trying to raise awareness about the problem of gender equality by talking to us.
The story in the newspaper made her words sound completely different to the conversation that she had with us.
Our class was extremely disappointed that The Press reported on one small comment and took it out of context when the whole conversation was inspiring and positive.
