Wicked gets underway
Showbiz Christchurch kicks off its
2018 programme with the debut of its version of the hit musical Wicked at the Isaac Theatre Royal tonight. Subtitled The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz, Stephen Schwartz’s Tony Award-winning tale focuses on the relationship between Shiz University sorcery students Glinda and Elphaba. Evening performances are at
7.30pm, with 4pm matinees this Sunday, and April 15 and 2pm ones on April 14 and 21. The season runs until April 21. Tickets are available from Ticketek.

The Wright Stuff
Former New Zealand opening batsman John Wright and his band The Sou’westers will perform at Woolston’s Blue Smoke tonight. Currently the coach of English county side Derbyshire, the 8.30pm show promises songs and yarns about his many tours of duty as a high-profile international sportsman, observer and solitary songwriter. Mintz pulling double duty
Legendary violinist Shlomo Mintz will perform two roles during the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra’s concert tomorrow night. He will feature as the soloist in Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin in E minor, before directing the orchestra in its performance of Brahms’ Symphony No. 3.
