Pool group wants funding

Two years after agreeing not to seek funding from the Christchurch City Council to rebuild Edgeware Pool, the community wants the council to stump up $5 million to build the facility. The council agreed in February 2016 to sell land for the pool to St Albans Pavilion and Pool Group for $1. As part of the agreement, the council stated it would not contribute to the project ‘‘in any other shape or form’’ either to develop the initiative or to keep it running in the future. The pool group agreed to those terms, but this week during the council’s longterm plan submission hearings, pool group chairman Paul Somerville asked the council for $5m to build the facility.
