Take it easy with the right apartment, villa
Golden Healthcare Group provides dementia, aged-care and mental health support at seven facilities employing 259 staff, and cares for approximately 350 residents.
It also provides villas and apartments.
Rest home care is provided at Golden Age Rest Home and Brookhaven Rest Home, both of which encompass retirement villages.
Brookhaven also has a dementia care unit, as do the Camellia Court, Albarosa, and Somerfield rest homes.
Hoon Hay Rest Home is fully dedicated to dementia care, while Hoon Hay House, on the same site, specialises in mental health.
Currently, one of 36 villas at Papanui’s Golden Age Rest Home is available for occupation.
Golden Healthcare Group also owns The Lady Wigram Village, a $120 million retirement village project launched after the Canterbury earthquakes. The first stage of 101 villas opened in 2015.
The complex features the latest hotel-style accommodation, with a restaurant, licensed bar, billiard room, movie theatre, library and bowling green.
The last of the first stage of villas and the apartments are now ready for occupation. Staff are available people around.
Apartments provide the perfect balance of independence and peace of mind for many people and at Lady Wigram Village come with a daily meal, morning and afternoon tea, and support in maintaining the apartment.
This leaves more time for socialising. A singing group, knitting and lots of other groups are available at Lady Wigram daily to show Village to fill in the day.
The village’s next stage of development is now well under way and is due to see a further 14 apartments, a swimming pool, spa and gym completed by Christmas.
There will then be 73 apartments, a rest home, a dementia facility and a hospital at Lady Wigram Village, in addition to the villas.
Golden Healthcare’s corporate services manager, David Sidaway, says people are increasingly opting for a retirement village at a younger age to access a better lifestyle.
‘‘They recognise the benefits of the ease of living and it allows them greater freedom and more social interaction,’’ he says.
‘‘This means that it’s really important for us to provide amenities that help residents to socialise and keep active.
‘‘More and more, retirement villages are becoming communities within their own right.’’
Lady Wigram is walking distance from The Landing – the central retail hub of the Wigram Skies subdivision – and is only a short drive from Hornby shopping mall The Hub, the Hornby Working Men’s Club and the city.
