Li­brary open­ing to­day

Hun­dreds of peo­ple are ex­pected through the doors when Christchurch’s new cen­tral li­brary, Tu¯ ranga, opens at 1pm to­day. Staff will lead tours of the $92 mil­lion li­brary, which holds more than 180,000 printed items – 160,000 of which are books – and a $1 mil­lion touch wall. The city coun­cil ex­pects 3000 peo­ple to use the li­brary each day.
