Twin quakes rattle Bali and PNG
At least three people have been killed and four injured after a powerful earthquake struck near the popular tourist island of Bali. The magnitude 6.0 quake struck at 7.44am local time yesterday at a depth of 9km. Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesman for Indonesia’s disaster agency BNPB, wrote on Twitter that several houses were also damaged in the earthquake that shook Bali and East Java. The quake occurred a few hours before a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Papua New Guinea.
