Youth apprehended

-

Police have located a person in relation to an early morning blaze that ravaged two classrooms at a North Canterbury school. Emergency services were called to Kaiapoi North School about 1.45am on Thursday. Police released CCTV footage yesterday of a person dragging and tossing a wheelie bin at the time of the blaze. A police spokesman said police were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident and would like to thank the community for its assistance. No arrests had been made but the case would be referred to Youth Aid, he said. Kaiapoi North School principal Jason Miles said he was relieved someone had been found. ‘‘I’m relieved . . . it reassures the community that we won’t have any repeats of this action.’’ Staff were still very emotional about the lost classrooms, he said. No-one was injured in the fire, but there was significant damage to the building.
