Military suicides

The Press - - Opinion | Letters -

Saul and Samson’s suicides were not ‘quasimilitary’ as Ren Kempthorne says (Jan 14), they were fully military in service to the God of war whose name is ‘‘the Lord’’ (Exodus 15:3).

The claim civilian euthanasia is ‘‘barely considered’’ in scripture is not true. Jesus had a spear thrust into his side to ensure he was dead. (John 19:34). That is civilian euthanasia, and Jesus forgave it before the event. A God of war who clearly allowed mercy killings, but also said ‘‘thou shalt not kill’’ is yet another Christian double standard.
