Affront to Christians

The Press - - Opinion | Letters -

Dr John Shepherd, an Australian cleric appointed last week as the Anglican Church’s new representative to Rome, delivered a sermon in which he said Christians should be ‘‘set free’’ from the traditional view of the resurrection. (World 17, Jan 14).

The remark is an affront to many Christians. The gospels declare that without Christ’s resurrection people would be ignorant that he actually died for us, therefore any forgiveness for our errors or any power to live holy lives would be useless. Nor could we declare that Jesus is Lord! What else is he removing?
