Four into two won’t work

-

On the front page of Monday’s paper was a statement from Councillor Mike Davidson, chair of the council’s urban development and transport committee, stating that the expected congestion from the Northern Motorway finishing at Innes Rd and Cranford St could be alleviated by charging commuters a fee at peak hours.

I’m trying to understand why $300 million has been spent to cope with the heavy traffic, but the motorway finishes by converging into a two lane road, with no chance of dispersing.

It’s not hard to figure out that four into two won’t work.

Clearly, the motorway should go through to Bealey Ave, where it would naturally disperse to various parts of the city.

Davidson admitted that he wasn’t in favour of the motorway, and I get the impression that the congestion fee is a way of saying, "I told you so".

Surely, we should have a chair whose sympathies lie with a need to improve the traffic flow, rather than hinder it.

Finishing the motorway at Innes Rd makes as much sense as bike lanes down St Asaph St.

The roading plan won’t work, and charging a fee is adding insult to injury. Wayne Tucker, Marshland

going to take urgent steps to fix the horrendous condition of New Brighton Rd in the vicinity of the Wainoni Bridge and Bower Ave intersection.

I was on the other side of town the other day and I could not find one piece of road in this condition in the IlamFendalton area. Funny that.

But I guess we are only the East. Terence Moyse, New Brighton
