New chair for city community board

- Tina Law

Christchurch woman Alexandra Davids has been elected chairwoman of a city community board.

Sally Buck resigned as chairwoman of the Linwood Central Heathcote Community Board at an emergency meeting last week.

Buck cited ill health as the reason for her stepping down from the role she has held for the past 41⁄2 years. She will remain as a member of the board and still retains her position as a member of the Canterbury District Health Board. Buck was a city councillor for 15 years from 1998.

Davids was deputy chairwoman of the board before being elected to replace Buck last week.

She has been a community board member for three terms.

Earlier this year, Davids, 34, became the youngest person to head the national body advocating for community boards for Local Government New Zealand.

At the time, she said she wanted to see happy, healthy, sustainable and resilient communities. ‘‘It is my goal to help wherever possible to make this the norm.’’
