Police stop uncovers badly injured child

Police are investigat­ing after they stopped a car for driving erraticall­y then found a badly bruised child in the back seat. The child was taken to Auckland’s Starship Hospital and the woman who was driving has been charged with refusing an officer’s request for a blood sample. Detective Senior Sergeant Eddie Sutherland, of Counties Manukau, said a member of the public called police after seeing a car driving erraticall­y in Onehunga. During the woman’s first appearance at Auckland District Court on Monday via audio-visual link, a police prosecutor said the child was taken to hospital after the injuries were discovered. The woman, who holds a Chinese passport, was remanded without plea until her second appearance in the same court next month.
