Sensible move

-

I note the council as a cost-saver is debating the reintroduction of herbicides containing Glyphosate. This is sensible because what has been used since it was discontinued has been a total costly failure.

Methods and products used have been desiccants which only dry off the above ground foliage and within 10-14 days regrowing green shoots appear. In other words a complete waste of labour hours and the cost of the product/method used.

Herbicides containing Glyphosate are called systemic which translocate the active ingredient sprayed onto the foliage down through the stem and into the roots, thereby killing the plant. This herbicide is most effective when plants are actively growing (not affected by frost, coldness or summer dryness.)

Furthermore the ground can be replanted 10 days later. Like all chemicals it is essential that safety is practised, even though when applied properly it is a very safe and effective product.
