Jaguares’ future uncertain
The retrenchment of Super Rugby appears to be gathering pace with Jaguares players in Argentina being encouraged to pursue professional playing opportunities overseas. With Super Rugby decimated by the Covid-19 pandemic and clouds hanging over the 2021 season as it had previously been constituted because of likely international travel restrictions, the Jaguares’ place in the crosscorder competition looks set to come under threat. Argentina have been left out on a limb in the hastily rearranged competition plan for this year, with New Zealand, Australia and South Africa all convening internal leagues to replace the now unworkable Super Rugby format which was abandoned after seven rounds in mid-March.
