Piha Pro in late 2021
New Zealand’s Piha Pro has managed to hold a position on the proposed calendar for the 2021 World Surf League. The event was set to debut last March but was cancelled at the last minute as the coronavirus pandemic strengthened its grip on the world. Eventually the entire 2020 WSL season was cancelled. The WSL announced yesterday that the Piha Pro, part of the Challenger Series (CS), would now be held from November 1-7 next year. The tour schedules have been updated to create distinct seasons between the Championship Tour (CT) and CS. From next year, the CS will run from August through to December. The condensed CS season means a compelling qualification race at the end of the calendar year to try to make the top tier.
