Kiwibank customers in privacy breach
More than 4000 Kiwibank customers have received other people’s transaction history in a privacy breach. On Tuesday, customers received an email or internet banking update containing their correct account number, name and address but another person’s banking history. The email was soon followed by an apology email from Kiwibank, which gave instructions to destroy the first email. Kiwibank spokeswoman Kara Tait said the issue was being investigated, and it was writing to customers whose transaction history may have been shared with the wrong person to apologise for the error and outlining the steps taken to protect their transaction history. ‘‘We have contacted the Privacy Commission to explain what has happened,’’ Tait said.
