A variegated monstera has sold for $6551 on Trade Me, breaking the auction site’s record for sales of this species of coveted indoor plant. The mature monstera deliciosa albo variegata, which had more than 300 bids, sold on Tuesday after a fierce biddingwar between four bidders, that sawthem outstripping each other in $50 lots. The auction ended with a final $50 bid from a fifth buyer. While the sale doesn’t outstrip the record set by the variegated minima that sold for $8150 in August, it does leave the $6500 hoya sold in June and $5000 variegated monstera sold in January in the dirt. The sale makes it the most expensive monstera ever sold on Trade Me.
