Arrest after duck shooting incident

-

A man has been arrested in relation to a duck shooting incident in Alexandra that left two women injured. Police arrested a 26-year-old Central Otago man on Monday, and he was charged with careless use of a firearm causing bodily injury. The two women were walking by the Clutha River on May 2 when they were hit by shotgun pellets allegedly discharged by a group of men on a boat. The women received ‘‘nasty’’ bruises, Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis said. One was injured in the lower leg and the other in the shoulder. They were walking along a public track and should have been safe, he said. Police were notified of the matter after the women had their injuries treated at the Alexandra Medical Centre. The men believed to be responsible had spoken to the injured women and offered help, but they then left the scene. The arrested man is scheduled to appear in the Alexandra District Court on May 12. Police inquiries are ongoing.
