‘Our small class sizes and additional teacher resources allow us to offer an appropriate and challenging programme for each girl, stretching them to achieve their potential.’

Diana Patchett, Executive Principal of St Margaret’s College.

The Class of 2021 theme at St Margaret’s College, ‘It’s Your Masterpiece’, encourages us all to embrace opportunities and to delight in the co-creation of a metaphorical artwork for our girls.

Attending St Margaret’s College and experiencing both the excellence and diversity of its programmes will surely realise a masterpiece that every girl can be proud of.

Independent schools are inherently flexible. They can choose their own curriculum and tailor this to better meet the needs of their students.

‘‘Our small class sizes and additional teacher resources allow us to offer an appropriate and challenging programme for each girl, stretching them to achieve their potential,’’ says Diana Patchett, Executive Principal of St Margaret’s College.

‘‘Two years ago we recognised the limitations of the national maths curriculum, especially for our Junior and Middle School students, so we developed a programme that better prepares our girls for success.’’

Girls at St Margaret’s College benefit from a specialist science curriculum that provides a developmental programme across the Junior, Middle and Senior schools, including units which introduce the younger girls to world-class science teachers and facilities.

In 2022, the SMC Senior School Foundation Diploma will replace Level 1 NCEA for girls in year 11. This is another example of how flexible teaching and learning at St Margaret’s College provides an advantage for its students.

The school’s approach maintains specialist course offerings, strengthens academic rigour and develops the skills and attributes that will better prepare girls for success in their choice of pathway to tertiary education through either NCEA or the International Baccalaureate.

As an independent school, St Margaret’s College is proud of its exemplary record in providing tailored education services and an innovative curriculum, enabling girls to pursue their post-school aspirations with confidence.

More importantly, they are empowered to learn, live and lead, with the support and encouragement to create their own masterpiece.
