Two accused of murder in custody

-

Two men accused of murdering a seasonal worker in Blenheim have been held in custody. A 37-year-old Wellington man and a 33-year-old Auckland man appeared in the Blenheim District Court jointly charged with murder yesterday in relation to an alleged stabbing on Market St on Sunday. The Auckland man is also charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and they are both charged with failing to help detectives with a search. Neither entered pleas. They did not seek bail, and were remanded in custody to their next appearance in the High Court on July 9. Judge David Ruth granted interim name suppression. Six other men, who did not appear in court yesterday, have been jointly charged with disorderly behaviour. Tongan vineyard worker Hiko Lynch, 23, was in New Zealand on the recognised ceasonal employer (RSE) scheme to earn money for his family back home when he died.
