6407 cases

There were 6407 new community cases of Covid-19 and two further deaths of people with the virus, reported yesterday. There were 368 in hospital with the virus and 18 in intensive care. A further two cases of the BA.5 variant of Omicron had been detected in people who travelled to New Zealand. The new cases took the total number of active cases in Aotearoa to 52,339. The seven-day rolling average of community cases was 7479, close to last Monday’s figure of 7553. The reported deaths were two people in their 80s.
