Chisnallwood Intermediate School

An innovative school rich in resources and opportunities

WEDNESDAY 6 JULY 5:30PM – 8PM ENROLLING NOW FOR 2023

Kia ora koutou,

Our Open Night this year is Wednesday July 6th. In order to allow social distancing, we will be holding two presentations at 5.30pm and 6.30pm. Following the presentation you are welcome to walk around the school. We warmly invite you to come along and find out for yourselves about our wonderful school. We look forward to meeting you there to discuss your child’s future.

Our Chisnallwood Mission statement “Challenge the margins of time, and explore what is beyond” and our four values; Respect, Relationships, Responsibility and Resilience (4Rs) are the cornerstone of everything we do and instil in our akonga at Chisnallwood Intermediate. Further to that our unofficial motto is the school of opportunities. This is backed up by what our students tell us and why they opted to join us. We proudly deliver vast opportunities for our students in every area of the curriculum, performing arts, sport, culture and many other extra-curricular activities, such as going to our own campground, Camp Taylor at Takamatua.

Our music programme is well known for its excellent standard. We have many different music groups, catering to a wide variety of needs. Our students continue to perform outstandingly in all areas of music. If you attend our Open Night I strongly recommend you visit the performing arts centre.

Students get a wonderful technology experience at Chisnallwood. Examples of this include Robotronics, which is a combination of robotics and electronics. We also offer Computer Science and students can access the IT room at lunchtimes to explore these skills further, or pop next door to our radio station. Extra learning opportunities include mechatronics, which is linked to a UC programme, coding club, and extension art. Our science laboratories continue to thrive as students explore the wonderful possibilities that science provides. We also have hard materials where students work with different materials and food technology, which is always a popular option!

The range of sports we cater for is immense, at last count 19. Furthermore our sports development programme caters for our elite athletes. Tuesday intermediate sports competitions allow students to compete against high calibre opponents. Furthermore we cater for all students via our Tuesday Leisure Education programme. I am very excited that this year we can attend the Aims games in Tauranga after it was postponed in 2020 and 2021. Prior to the Aims games we have the Caims games, so there is a lot to look forward to for our athletes.

Chisnallwood is part of the Otakaro Kahui Ako. Some of the advantages of being in a Kahui Ako are that you get strong consistency and transitions for your child. These strong relationships lead to success for the tamariki in our community. Chisnallwood as an Intermediate sits in the middle and plays an important role in preparing students for high school education. I look forward to seeing you on July 6! Kind regards
