Dotcoms want home help before baby arrives

- Debbie Jamieson

Tech entrepreneur Kim Dotcom and his wife, Liz, are seeking a nanny and perhaps several staff members to work at their $15 million Glenorchy home.

In an advertisement on Twitter, Dotcom says the pair need help ‘‘seriously’’ at their remote home, about 45 kilometres from Queenstown. They are after a nanny for their baby boy, due in October, a personal assistant, a housekeeper and a chef, the ad says.

Dotcom became a household name in 2012, when armed police stormed his rented Auckland mansion at dawn, at the behest of the FBI, alleging he was part of a ‘‘mega conspiracy’’ over the Megaupload website. He is still embroiled in an extradition process with the US Supreme Court.

Dotcom said they were looking to increase their team in Glenorchy and had already had some good applicants.

It is not clear if the roles are separate jobs.

In another tweet Dotcom says ‘‘government spies and other lunatics’’ need not apply. ‘‘We do thorough background checks and my job interviews are on legendary difficulty (sic). Good luck.’’

The tweet features a video of Liz Dotcom dressed in a sparkling gold outfit alongside a silver Porsche with the number plate ‘‘HELP’’. Dotcom bought the car for friend Finn Batato, who died from cancer last month.

Batato was facing extradition over his role in the Megaupload website alongside Dotcom and two other men. Extradition proceedings against Batato were dropped last year when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Dotcom’s co-accused, Bram van der Kolk and Mathias Ortmann, have since done a deal that will see them face charges in New Zealand in return for the US dropping the extradition case against them.

This will be Kim Dotcom’s sixth child.
